Emergency Preparedness and War

Foreign invasion or civil war is possibly the last thing anybody would want to experience. The world has already been a witness to several world wars, regional wars and cross border conflicts, which are increasingly more prevalent as populations increase and impinge on each other. We have all read of different wars and how the people during those times have lived. War time is miserable time.

Different parts in the world have been at war all recorded history. We see much war footage on television and get numbed to the number of casualties and the plight of bystanders. Although almost everybody realizes that war is hell, there comes a point where we have to face the prospect of having to defend our way of life or be denied it and perhaps destroyed. The question then becomes at what cost.

As has been said famously, “if you want peace, prepare for war”. Our society attempts to protect each other from the violent actions of others. It also authorizes the use of force for self-protective purposes and defense, or to defend others.

The police force and military are organized and authorized to meet this need. As civilians, we have less discretion and training or structured organization to effectively combat violence, thuggery, civil chaos, gang warfare, vigilante-ism, persecution or war. The best we can do is prepare plans of action for possible scenarios at worst and hope we do not have to implement them.

Just as there is the possibility for natural calamities, we need to prepare for man-made emergency situations by stocking as much food and water as feasible. Equally important are hazardous conditions protection and safety equipment, even pieces of cloth that we could use to cover our mouth and nose, and sunglasses for our eyes as protection against dust particles brought about by bombings and the like.

What does it mean to say that we will be protected when the authorities provide so little information about warfare. A burgeoning crisis is an often used path to increase the power of authoritarian emergency proclamations and curfews. I know I have emergency preparedness on my mind as conditions deteriorate to the point of the breakdown of society as we know it. Remember that when you have an imminent threat the really tough part of a emergency preparedness is a feeling of helplessness. There is a real possibility of social collapse. This is the important part of emergency preparedness. Availability of ordinary items and access to things we take for granted daily will no longer be likely.

Locate an area to be used for emergency supplies that allows you to maintain adequate and freshly provisioned items to avoid shortages caused by emergencies. This is a method to better discover what is necessary before becoming involved in a crisis. There are plenty of opinions on this topic. You can debate this point, but emergency preparedness is sensible and prudent even at the best of times. Drill this into your brain: Expect the unexpected.

The authorities first responsibility is their own survival and operational capacity. They have the training and the equipment to take care of themselves foremost. When all hell breaks loose do not rely on the authorities to protect you or respond to your personal situation. The logistics of getting to communal facilities and shelters will be difficult and may not even be prudent. We have seen what happened during the natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Public facilities were dangerous and inadequate. Police and National Guard confiscated private citizens’ only means of protection, leaving their valuables and supplies exposed to looters and corrupt officials.

When the situation overwhelms the public services you will be on your own or with like minded neighbors to protect your family, yourself and your property. Be ready!

In thinking of terms of emergencies I, in practice, strongly encourage early preparation. I think that you’ll easily find a fresh source of emergency supplies that maintains what you can do during an economic meltdown. There is a surprisingly thin line that holds up the veil between order and disorder just before giving way to more social collapse. It costs but you have to pay for emergencies. Just go look at any account of the way conflict arises. Small events gather momentum and become out of control very rapidly at the time. In hindsight it may look like the signs were obvious but in practically all cases people are taken by surprise and caught unprepared. To the wise few who are ready go the fortune of survival.

I know you are skeptical that I brought up gang warfare. I know you aren’t amazed that I brought up emergencies. But social collapse is commonplace. Just look at the many failed states of the world and what has become of their societies, neighborhoods, and culture.

How am I supposed to completely explain something that is common in history yet seems so incredible in our lifetime. One does not have to look back far in this and last century to see what dramatic events have evolved into such cataclysmic tragedies. Emergency preparedness is a prudent way to gain access to escape, avoidance, and survival. There may be limits to what we can achieve but that is no excuse for laxity or wishful thinking that it can not happen here or to you.

This is a fantastic place to enjoy the lifestyle of the height of civilization but don’t expect it to be a never ending smooth road to eternal peace and happiness. Maybe it begins with declaring an economic meltdown. It isn’t every day that civil disobedience pops in out of the blue. I will just share the most important aspects of social collapse now. You may not really know emergency preparedness yet. What does it mean to interpret something that entails gang warfare so well.

Emergency preparedness is a surprisingly easy way to get even more protection from economic meltdown. So how much civil disobedience can you envision when everyone is out of basic utilities and provisions. Many of you see having a crisis as something not to worry about because you will be the only one dealing with it after the fact. This tactic has worked quite often with an emergency preparedness that covers a circumstance for societal, physical and financial breakdown. So now you may get a bigger picture about economic meltdown. I have already pointed out that you should be using extraordinary action. It is routine how the populace must get on a circuitous mission like pervasive social collapse.

Aside from guns and ammo, the government will also equip themselves with machinery such as military trucks, armored personnel carriers, guard platoon deployments, transportable bridges, mobile decontamination services, and water purification systems. Other amenities such as petroleum supply are especially reserved for times of war. Don’t expect the public to get anywhere near these supplies.

There is basically no lack of opinions on this topic. If there is only one thing I can say it is this: Nothing good will come from this. Economic meltdown is an inevitable end result when you comprehend political expedience and loss of individual liberties. Expansion of emergency powers may cause organized crime and turf warfare. Resistance to authority, pockets of gangland territories, no-go zones, and secession clusters will become common.

I think that I will have quite a few people take me up on this civil disobedience issue and if it had not been for previous examples of social collapse we could assume that we are sophisticated enough now to avoid repercussions. This is a great reason to making more appropriate preparations for extreme measures for your safety and well-being. For starters it would be best if you had adequate defensive power so that you are free to choose the appropriate course of action because at least you have options.

There is something special and different about the way most people think concerning their own circumstances and location. This alone makes me want to check out perimeter security.

The government will have to organize effective cooperation between its different civil services. Police, Fire Department, Emergency Medical Technicians and other public utility providers are expected to work together to ensure that civilians get as much protection as possible. Sometimes, able bodied citizens might be requested or even mandated to undergo special training programs to help protect the rest of the community.

War is often considered as being at an international large scale event, which individuals and small communities could do little about. But don’t relegate the possibility of war as not going to be near where you live. Most of the preparations involved are left to the national government and international security institutions. As citizens, we may be left with no choice but to follow where the government leads us in times of war. But consider the likelihood that war can be a local issue with all the consequences and ramifications. Also make a concerted effort to enlist the support of your neighbors. A cooperative effort may mean the difference between life and death, survival and demise.
